You would like to rent your accommodation for photo shoots or filming, and you have some questions about the type of property required for photographic or cinematographic productions? Here are some answers, with Camille, one of the people in charge of the rental service for filming locations and natural settings at Easy Spaces location agency.
A guide to renting property for film shoots suggests that the most common location requests include:
houses
apartments
castles
villas
atypical spaces such as industrial lofts
shops
offices
rooftops
hangars
barges
factories, decommissioned or not...
The selection criteria for the properties include the proximity of Paris, or of a city in the provinces, with a TGV station or an airport to receive the teams. It is important that the location has a large surface area with a main room of at least 40 square meters, good lighting and easy parking nearby for the control room, sometimes the canteen and film equipment. It is also important to own or co-own the property and to obtain the agreement of the syndic if it is in co-ownership. If the property is rented, the owner's agreement is also required. The requests can vary, like a colorful child's room, a beautiful bathroom, an abandoned house, a place "in its juice", a Haussmannian apartment or a swimming pool with a sea view... ;-D
Rental rates for feature films, music videos or TV series are generally as follows:
Large house in the Paris area: between 800€ and 2500€ / day
Large apartment in Paris (intra-muros) : between 800€ and 2000€ / day
Villa with swimming pool and sea view in the south of France: between 1000€ and 2500€ / day
Classic house in the province: between 700 and 1200€ / day.
For short films, the rates are lower because the budgets are limited. A rental contract must be signed between the owner and the location agency, the clients must also subscribe to an insurance policy, before the beginning of the shooting, and establish an inventory of fixtures before the entry of the team in the premises. The agency takes care of everything, and will provide you with the necessary documents.
For long term shoots, there may be one or more days of location scouting and/or preparation (usually paid at a 1/2 day rental rate). During this period, the property is used, but shooting does not begin until afterwards. The film crew may modify the furnishings, decorations and install equipment, with the owner's approval. The owner may stay on site and attend the shoot, subject to favorable conditions & agreement with the client or production company. After the shooting, the team must return your home in its original state.
