INFOS ON FILM SHOOTING AND FILM PRODUCTIONS FOR CINEMA AND TELEVISION

The most wanted shooting locations lie on the appeal they have on the location scout and film directors, and they generally present large volume areas, lovely made rooms, characterized by high ceilings.

The property should preferably be in a calm area, as noisy areas (such as roads and railways) could impact on the sound recording.

Access must be easy, and a parking space nearby must be provided in order to let bulky technical vehicles reach the filming areas. 

As a matter of fact it is the production crew, counting with the director and the producer, finally deciding which shooting location shall be selected and which available setting will be the ideal for the film shooting.

Before selecting a location, both the director and its producer need to visit and compare several locations which might comply with their requirements.

A go and see visit of a location does not necessarily mean that your location will be the selected one for photo and film shooting activities, and your location could be possibly visited several times before the final decision is taken.

In case your property is selected, the shooting authorization and all the relevant conditions concerning your property (rental period, price etc...) will be negotiated with the production company.

Location hire fees:

Location hire fees can vary depending on different factors.

First of all, the owner’s demand, the quality of the location, the nature of the shooting (feature film, short-film, telefilm, ads, and institutional film), the film budget, the technical crew size, the genre of the setting, the length of the shooting etc...

Location occupancy:

It consists of 3 steps: mounting (preparation and arrangement), shooting (filming on the premises), and dismounting (repair and replacement of the premises as they were at the beginning).

Should the selected location be part of a co-owners’ building, the manager of the building shall mandatorily be informed in order to get the necessary authorizations.

The occupancy duration can vary between 1 day and several weeks, depending on the type of film, the contents of the scenes, the film and the limited budget.

Shooting crew and equipment:

A technical crew for shooting activities can include from 15 to 200 people.

A mobile canteen and several trucks shall be parked in the street next to the setting.

Inventory:

It is highly recommended to perform an inventory and let such document be signed in two copies by the owner or the location manager, before the beginning of the shooting activity, and to enclose it to the agreement.

Shooting agreement:

Productions generally show their own agreements of premises provision for shooting activities.

Such agreement shall specify the period (mounting, shooting and dismounting date), conditions concerning the premises provision, conditions concerning fares, and terms ad condition of payments, public liability clauses, amendments and termination clauses.

Insurance fees:

Each and every production company shall sign an insurance policy covering its activity, namely concerning the shooting sessions.

It is actually essential to obtain the insurance certificate of the company shooting in your premises (to be enclosed to the agreement.)
